It literally took me 5 minutes to make this vest. I have had the leopard print scarf for about a year. I bought two of them, at Target, for the grand total of $5.76, (they were $2.88 a piece) How can you pass up a deal like that?
I have had many ideas for them but never made a true commitment to change them permanently until now.. I did a no sew sweater vest about 2 weeks ago Click HERE to view, which gave me the idea for this.
Super Easy, I promise..
and it is great for those ~not feeling too skinny days..
Tutorial
Things You Need
1. Scarf (the dimensions of this one are around 35 inches x 35inches)a larger scarf would work well too. (48 inches by 48inches)
2. Scissors
3. Dinner plate
4. Chalk or a Washable Pin
Fold your scarf in half
Find the middle
and then cut a circle closer to the top
I used a dinner plate, traced it with chalk and then cut out the circle.
That is it.
I told you super easy and quick..
I just LOVE <3, 5 minute Fridays..

ReplyDeleteI love all these vest you do. So fun!
ReplyDeleteHi Anne, you're being featured today over at Etcetorize! Come on over and check it out~
ReplyDeleteThank you! I'm a mama sewing for my lovelies, and it REALLY helps to have the 5 minute projects. As mothers everywhere know, 5 minutes is actually 15 with all the interruptions and tickling...:)
ReplyDeleteAnother brilliant idea!! Love It!!
ReplyDeletewhere'd you get the scarf! :) love.
ReplyDeleteI really love both of these vests. This is right up my alley
ReplyDeleteThank you so much!!
DeleteOkay, I feel like an idiot....have cut the hole in the scarf as shown....and can't figure out how to put it on....can't seen that it looks like the picture....does it need another cut that I am missing...can somebody help me?
ReplyDeleteHey there, go to Re-Style #54 and the video will show you. You put both arms through the hole. I hope this helps.
Deletewhat is the scarf made of? what about raveling?
Deleteconfused on the hole cutting, do you cut out the circle while you stil have the scarf folded in half?
DeleteHey there, Yes, I folded my scarf in half and then cut the hole.
DeleteThis scarf is made of a knit like material.. And no it has not unraveled or frayed. If you use a knit like material it will not fray.
DeleteOk, but if you cut the circle as indicated, after the fabric is folded, don't you end up with two holes?
DeleteNevermind, I see the double fabric in the photo now, duuuuh.
Deleteits me again, I just can't figure this out, which way did you fold it long or short way in half, and then explain putting it on afterwards. Thanks
ReplyDeleteHey Me again, :) I put some illustrations on this post. I hope this helps.
ReplyDeleteHugs
Anne
thanks but not able to figure it out, how can there be a short side if the dimensions are the same 35 x 35? then how do you put the thing on???
DeleteYou are so right!! The dimensions are about 35 by 35 so all you do is fold it in half. I am sorry I didn't understand the question. If you go to the video on the Restyle #54 Five Minute Draped vest, it might help. Plus I added a picture on this one as well.
DeleteAnne

Anne
Oh I am going to do this right now! I have a $2 scarf I'm willing to sacrifice if it doesn't work, since my scarf isn't square. It's about 22x63
ReplyDeleteit should work.. let me know.
ReplyDeleteYou will not need to fold it in half, just find the middle and cut your hole. :)
hugs
Anne
Hi there I just made this scarf vest! It is so easy.... took a little time to figure it out. I also thought you would end up with 2 holes. Actually you do but you wear it folded and double thickness. I used a dinner plate for the hole. ha ha I tried it on and it was all bunched up and rolled and then I couldn't get it off!! I finally got it off and just cut a larger hole. I'm a little larger on top. Anyway it turned out perfectly and the circles I cut out I'm going to make a few flowers to embellish it and the bit more I trimmed works as a bit of a belt or sash if I want to cinch it in. Thanks so much and hope this helps if you are confused. I found this on pinterest
ReplyDeleteOkay so I just commented above at 10:37. I said that you wear it double thickness and you would have 2 holes, which works but if you cut only one circle and single thickness your scarf will be longer. To put it on you drape it around your neck (with the hole on your upper back) and put your arms in one at a time. Hope this helps. cheers
ReplyDeleteHello! This is super cute, I have to say :)
ReplyDeleteBut I'm confused... if you do fold it in half, then wouldn't you have two holes? Or are you only folding it in half to easily find the middle... then unfold and trace your circle?

ReplyDeleteThis is a perfect completer piece for an outfit during the dog days of summer. Love it.
ReplyDeleteI can't get to the video. Can you send me a link to karen.moss1985@hotmail.com?
ReplyDeleteLove your ideas! Thanks!
me mato el dibujo pero fue explicitamente explicativo!!!! gracias saludos desde argentina
ReplyDeleteI love this idea (and all of your ideas actually!) The only difficulty I have is that I am not that small :-) I think if you are a little larger - I wear a size 12 - then you will have to adjust the measurements a little. A 35 inche scarf does not give much fabric, so it is a shorter vest. If you like a longer look then a larger scarf would be in order for this patter (like 45 inches). Thank you for all you have posted/published - I LOVE your creativity!!
ReplyDeleteOr, instead of cutting the scarf, you can tie the two ends of the scarf, length-wize, and put it on the same as the tutorial!
ReplyDeleteIf I was making this for someone who wore a size 4x how big of a square would I need?
ReplyDeleteI am not really sure how big it would have to be, Maybe take these measurements and multiple by 3.
DeleteI love it
ReplyDeleteThis is the best use of that scarf, it was absolutely made for this!!!
ReplyDeleteMade this for my 9 year old daughter. She loves it and looks super adorable on her. Making one in every color!!!

ReplyDeleteI think I see the confusion here. When the scarf is folded in half, do you cut the hole through both layers of fabric (creating 2 holes) or just in the top layer of fabric? Thanks.
ReplyDeleteYes cut the holes through both pieces of fabric.:)
DeleteOn the t-shirt one, it's laying out flat...one layer & correct me if I'm wrong, but from the look of the pictures on this scarf one, it's folded in half, the hole/plate circle is drawn on, cut & then it's still folded when you wear it.??? I'm going to make some for my Gdaughters, the 6 oldest ones. :) Ages 22 thru 5. :) They'll love it! But just the t-shirt one. I think the scarf one would confuse the younger ones. Thanks for the great ideas!
