Project Re-Style # 25 Denim Bracelets

Happy Monday Everyone!
Once again,  here we are.
Project Re-Style Monday.
This is week #25 of my project Re-Style Challenge.  What is this Project Re-Style Challenge you ask?   Well... it is  Re-Styling something old into something new, and I just LOVE it. I relish in the thought of turning something old into something new.  I will post all the details about Project Re-Style at the end of this post, as always.
This weeks Re-Style comes straight out of the June issue of  InStyle Magazine.

Denim Bangle Bracelets.
How cute are these?, Great for summer.
A Great DIY.

Remember my dyed denim? This is all the leftovers from that.
So lets make some bracelets.:)

Tutorial

Cut your leather or stiff material around the widest part of your hand,  leave just a little to overlap.
This leather was a belt, and a wonderful donation that E gave me, (Thanks E, coffee time soon! :)) and it was thin enough to cut with scissors. I cut it in varied widths.

Take your strips of denim and hot glue the first  strip down.
Wrap and Glue as you go keeping the denim tight.
Until you get to the end.
Once you get to the end slightly over lap the two pieces and hot glue.  Then continue with your denim strips.
Wrap where the two pieces overlap.  Then hot glue, and trim the extra off.

I used my finger and frayed the edges just a little.

I took a piece of scrap leather and lined the inside of the bracelet.
And Ta-dah!!
Bracelets for pennies

One of them, I wrapped with a chain, then I connected the two pieces of chain with a jump ring, and let some of the extra chain hang down.
For the Bigger Bangle, I made a denim tassel, wrapped it around and hot glued it.

Happy Re-Styling
Everyone.!

Oh My!!!
Next week it will be the half way point.

Blog LOVE!

I have not had a lot of time to search through my favorite blogs like I normally  do, because  my paying job has been occupying most of my time. But, I am not going to let that faze me. I am still going to be focusing on my blog 100%,  because I love this (BLOG) more than I have loved anything in a long time.
Some other exciting news that is happening  this summer ,  I am Teaching a Fashion / Style class,  to 7th ~12th graders, at our local art center.  So... I am thinking I will be posting a lot of the stuff we create from the class.    I think it will be fantastic, to see what young minds create.
Today, however, I am going to post some of the favorite things that I saw this week, on some of my favorite blogs.  The TALENT just amazes me, and I want all of you to know, that I appreciate you so very much.  All of you are always so supportive and so very kind. ( I thank you, from the bottom of my heart  for that).  Blogging, is one of the most  up lifting and positive environments, which is something I think we all need in our lives.
So sit back and enjoy some fantastic Ideas..

DIY, Dyed Denim

Half Dyed denim~ LOVE it . So I decided  to experiment.
 Phase 1
Red

I needed a pair of beachy shorts.
I did these in red at first. The funny things is, after my daughter saw these, she wanted to also dye her cut offs,  but she wanted purple.  I just so happen to have some blue dye,  so I mixed it in with the red and we made her a pair.
Now, hers are that ridiculously short version, but she assured me this was beach attire and for hanging out  around the house. But her's are really cute.
Love the color.

Phase 2
Purple

I was truly excited when
H, decided she would pose for me.

After I saw this color, I decided to re- do my jeans this color.
Phase 3

I also decided to do a pair, half purple.
 Phase 4

Super easy
Tutorial

Things You Need
1.Old jeans, or shorts you already have
2 Scissors
3.Rit Dye
4. Pot
5. Rubber gloves
To make different colors
  • Magenta (fuchsia, rose, bright pink): Magenta can't be mixed from other colors. You will have to buy it.
  • Red: Add a small amount of yellow or orange to magenta.
  • Orange, Schoolbus Yellow: Mix yellow with magenta or red.
  • Yellow: Yellow can't be mixed from other colors. You will have to buy it.
  • Lime Green, Chartreuse: Add a small amount of green or turquoise blue (cyan) to yellow.
  • Green: Mix turquoise blue (cyan) and yellow.
  • Teal Green: Mix turquoise blue (cyan) with a small amount of yellow or green.
  • Cyan (turquoise blue): Cyan can't be mixed from other colors. You will have to buy it.
  • Blue: Add a small amount of purple or magenta to turquoise blue (cyan).
  • Violet-Blue: Mix magenta with cyan or blue.
  • Purple: Mix magenta with a small amount of cyan, blue, or violet.

1.Put hot water in a pot, Mix your color with the rit dye, add to the water. (I did Red and Blue= Purple)
2. Wet your jeans
3. Dunk your jeans up to the line you want(wearing gloves)
4. Let sit for about 2 minutes
5 .Raise up your jeans about an inch for another 4 minutes
6. Fold your jeans in half.  Raise  up your jeans again so there is only an inch left. ~At this phase  I let the them sit for about an hour.  I wanted them dark at the very bottom.
7.With your gloves on, rinse out all the dye, until your water runs clean.
8. Take a towel roll them in it, and squeeze all the water out , then hang out to dry or throw them in the dryer.
You are all done
and you have new fun summer jean shorts..

Happy Friday Everyone!

Stripes and Flowers

Stripes and flowers ~ a do or a don't?  I have loved the combination of stripes and flowers since I can remember. Even in High School,  I would combine strange things, wear my sweaters backwards, MC Hammer pants, one glove, and crazy, leg warmers.  I was always willing to take a chance( not so daring anymore, AGE settles you I think).  BUT~ on that note, I still love taking some chances, stepping outside the box, and I still love the combination of mixing different patterns together. The only rule I have for myself, is to try and stay in the same color palette. That is just my rule.   If you so desire, you can pretty much mix it up however you like,  as long as your confident, you can pull it off.  That is what is so great about individual Style.. It is YOURS!
You wear the clothes, don't  let the clothes wear you.
OH, and remember Yesterdays DIY Halter ?
This is how I wore it.

Men's Shirt to Halter, DIY

After I made my Re-Style this week,  I was left with a pitiful, sleeveless, men's shirt.  I went directly to the internet and started to search ideas.   Then I remembered that Keira, from the Blog A Pretty Penny, had posted a Re-Style about a Halter made out of a men's shirt, HERE. She, in turn, got this fantastic idea from, Christina, and her cute  blog~ 6 petals, Here.   I thought this would be an excellent idea for my poor over sized, sleeveless shirt. Just look how sad my shirt looks, down below, before the Re-Style.
Seriously, it needed some love.

 Tutorial
Things You Need.
1. Men's shirt
2. Scissors
3. Sewing Machine
4. Large safety Pins

Take your scissors and cut from the arm pit to the top collar, like the picture above.

Then on the back, cut out  from the arm pit straight across to the middle leaving a 5 inch band, do that on both sides.

Try on the shirt inside out and pin under your arms to make the shirt fit, then pin all the way down. I darted on the chest area, to take out extra material.
Try on the shirt again after you have sewn it to make sure it fits.  Now is the time to make any corrections.
Once you like how everything looks, you can trim all the excess material.
and Iron.

Then I attached the braid to the top.
I ironed and hemmed the arms, to make it have a finished look.

OLD

NEW

And now you have a new shirt thanks to
Thanks Girls, for such a great idea.
