I wanted a one shoulder shirt to wear out Saturday night but I couldn't find one that fit,
So I decided to make my own and no sewing required.
Tutorial
Things you need.
- Mens Tee- Shirt* I used a Extra large mens Tee-shirt.
- Scissors
- Chalk
Large mens tee-shirt for a small build
Extra large mens tee-shirt for a medium build
XXL mens tee- shirt for a large build
first make a diagonal cut from under one arm to the top collar.
and cut off the other sleeve
cut the top apart so that you have two pieces
13 inches from the top shoulder
I am 18in across right under the breast.
16 inches, about 3 inches lower- almost to my waist
15 inches at the waist
back to 18 inches at the hips.
cut in to your marks.
also cut your shirt up the side to open it up
so that you can tie the strips you cut.
Now tie your shirt you can adjust it however you like, tighter or more loose.
the second tie from the top, you want to tie a small knot at the end..
because this will hang off your shoulder.
I love this shirt..
I hope your Tuesday was fantastic!
Lots of <3,
Anne
Cute!!! Love how you tie knots at the side, just love this piece...Great Work!

ReplyDeleteLove this shirt. I've been experimenting with cut and tie shirts for some time and love the one shoulder look! Thanks much for the tutorial.
ReplyDeleteI tried and failed miserably :(
ReplyDeleteGoing to try this right now. Will update shortly! Thank you, I love it.
ReplyDeleteAnd how did it work out for you? I tried it and got it all messed up. Good thing I used a cheap shirt to try it out on.
DeleteI just finished mine, I loved it!
ReplyDeleteThanks.
Daiana
Yay!! So great!
DeleteI loved this!! I made it for a concert outfit and it was nice and cool and looked super cute with my cowboy boots :)
ReplyDeleteAwesome!!!
DeleteHow does the cut look so smooth if cutting with scissors and no sewing?!
ReplyDeleteThe edges of the jersey knit roll under no matter how crappy the cut after you pull it gently. Coco Channel was the first designer to use this fabric because it does not ravel and it is very versatile . :)
DeleteYou just answered my question!! THANK YOU SO MUCH!! I can hardly wait to try this..maybe over the course of this week, so I'll have something cute to wear on Saturday. :)
DeleteCan I do this with my own Tshirt (my size) but skip the knots? just make it one shoulder?
ReplyDeleteI have not tried it but if you do let me know.
DeleteThis is a super cute shirt! Can't wait to make one. Thanks for the great instructions.
ReplyDeleteI was wondering..How well do they wash and wear?
ReplyDeleteThey wash and wear great.. I wash in cold and hang dry all of my things.
Deletesuper cute! and I love your hair cut!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Shellee!!!
Delete<3
I <3 this! Just got done making mine and now my daughter wants one. ;p Guess mom can't have all the fun. I was wondering...about how far apart did you make your cuts? I just kind of guessed on mine...but am curious for the next one I make. Thanks so much! Keep up the great and easy diy!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much:)!!!!I did the cuts about 2 1/2 to 3 inches apart. But really you can judge and do it however you like.
DeleteI took 2 tie dyes that my girls don't wear and turned them into their fav items in less than 10 minutes! My 7 year old took the sleeve scraps and turned them into bracelets, too. Thanks so much!
ReplyDeleteSo Awesome .. Thank you.
DeleteGreat idea! Now what can I go an cut up?
ReplyDeleteOn step 3, How do you know how far to cut to? That is the only part I don't get. :)
ReplyDeleteIn the picture you are going to measure and mark your inches. Then you cut to where you have made your mark. Does that help?
DeleteI made this too!! Cute!!
ReplyDeleteAwesome!!
DeleteThis is adorable! I want to make one. :)
ReplyDeleteI saw this shirt and just had to make one. I am a heavier set girl, so I put a cute patterned tube top under it and it is absolutely adorable! Love it!!! Thank you so much for the instructions! :)
ReplyDeleteI came across your ideas and I love them! I made this one sleeved black shirt tonight and it's adorable. Can't wait to wear it!
ReplyDeleteExcellent directions! Very simple to follow and I appreciate the step by step pictures. Very well done, thank you!
ReplyDeleteThis is the second shirt I've tried to make from your blog. My problem is... no matter how long I take or how many times I go over it, the fabric is too hard to cut in a straight line. Its always jagged. It's very frustrating!!!! anyone got any help ideas?
ReplyDeleteTasha, I have a pair of scissors that I only cut fabric with they are very sharp. Are your scissors dull that is the only thing I can think of why it is jagged. I hope this helps.
DeleteTasha, try a rotary cutter and quilt ruler instead of scissors. Hope that helps!! - Heather
DeleteSuper cute! Can't wait to try! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteclever..i love it :)
ReplyDeletevery beautiful! i'll definitely try it and link back to you from my blog, http://bisozozo.blogspot.com/. Is that ok with you?

DeleteSMART T PANTS! what a great idea! I love it and it looks great on you, I cant wait to try it! Praying I look as good in it!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI just did this! It looks great!!! The shirt I used was a little smaller (my husband has a tiny waist, and I stole one of his shirts) so the bottom comes up a bit. I wear a tank top under it and it looks great!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for this!!! (:
Now here's hoping me husband doesn't get mad that I cut up his shirt. Ha ha.
-Kalyn
Love it! I assume this can be done with printed tees as well?
ReplyDeleteThat is a beautiful top I am looking for a t-shirt in my closet to try my cutting skills. Thanks for sharing!

ReplyDeleteJane
Thank you Jane :)
Deletewow this is amazing!! its cute :)
ReplyDeleteThank you so much!!
DeleteI want to make this tonight, however I am a little confused on one thing. In step 3 you measured and said 13 inches from the top of your shoulder. To where? Where do you stop and do you cut the whole 13 inches?
ReplyDeleteYou Measure from the top down 13 inches and yes you cut the whole 13 inches..
DeleteI hope this helps:)
So 13 inches is just a common number that everyone uses, it's not to a certain point on yourself?
DeleteHey 13 is an average for a person 135 lbs 5'7". That is my size. Add an inch for smaller size .. Subtract for larger size .
DeleteHow cute!!
ReplyDeleteThank you!!
DeleteI just found an huge t-shirt that was already partly cut and i made your shirt. It is so comfy and its green. Awesome idea!!

ReplyDeleteI am leaving for Panama City Beach on Friday, and I am making this tomorrow! I love it! So easy...Do you think my husband will miss just one t-shirt? Nahh...
ReplyDeletecute im making this shirt now except im having two different colors one for the front one for the back great idea <3
ReplyDeleteSounds awesome.. Thank you :)
DeleteI'm losing weight myself, 55 lbs so far, after gaining 75 from thyroid disorder. I have always been self conscious of my body to an extreme level forever, even though I'm constantly approached by complete strangers who just tell me that I'm a "strikingly beautiful person" (women & men alike, & totally not in a creepy way at all like you'd think, it's a compliment!). I wore my very first TANK TOP last weekend out in public... For being 33, that's huge for me! I am going to try this right now & keep up what my friends told me to do: Be confident in my sexy! ;) lol I'm trying! Thanks for the idea!
ReplyDeleteSo wonderful. I am so happy for you.. and thank you for sharing with me.. have a wonderful weekend :)
DeleteI am a Pure Romance consultant and I am always trying to find really pretty shirts to wear to my parties and this is going be a hit! Of course I have to try it in PINK! I'm sure my customers are going to love it you sour site it going to get many more hits for ideas.
ReplyDeleteI am now going to look at the REST of your ideas!
I also have an 11 year old daughter and I'm sure I will be a rock star mom when we create this together. She will love it, I'm sure.
Thanks again!
That is so awesome.. I love doing projects with my daughter. Thank you so much for you sweet comment..
DeleteWOW! I tried this tonight with one of those oversized freebie shirts and it turned out super cute, Thank You So Much!!! I made one little alteration and put 3 smaller ties at the shoulder because I was trying to accomodate a graphic on the front of the shirt. You have just breathed life into that stack of tees in my closet :)
ReplyDeleteThank you so much:))
DeleteI just finished attempting to do this shirt. the cut going down the front soulder made it look, well...homemade. I wasn't really into the 'cut look' of the edges around the arm holes. Reminds me of the guys who cut out the sides of their shirts to make work out shirts. :/ I was really looking forward to this design too.
ReplyDeleteI'll just use this cut up shirt as dust rags :)
After sitting here thinking about what I could have done differently to this shirt, maybe for me the cut coming from the shoulder should be like 6 inches. And maybe I should have gotten a way bigger shirt, I thought an XXL men would work but dang, guess not. I guess I was needing more slack on the sides. As for the armhole on the other side with no tie/shoulder...I am still trying to figure out how to not have that yucky fresh cut edge...and if I am going bigger, the armhole will sure likely be droopy, showing my bra....unless I tie it tighter on the other side....
DeleteHmmm. Look at me, hear I am rambling on like we are BFFs! LOL. Will update if I attempt again :)
I love that you shared this with me.. I am so sorry this did not work out . I am a womens medium and I used a men's xl so I went up several sizes!! ;( big hug to you and you get a great big A in my book!!!
DeleteDecided to give this a try. Used an orange work shirt my husband got for free.. didn't work as well. I think it would've looked better with a bigger size and just the solid black you used. Thanks tho :) I'm definitely going to try again!
ReplyDeleteI love this idea! Just finished making my own but I put my own rocker twist on it =) (I'm 18) Used an old black, oversized concert t-shirt and cut a few inches off the bottom to crop it. Now that I've lost a bunch of weight and have my flat tummy back, I'm so glad I can pull it off! My first DIY project and it turned out great! Now I have a new shirt to wear out clubbing =D
ReplyDelete--Gracey
that is awesome Gracey. I am so glad you tried to make it:)) I bet it looks awesome on you!
Deletewow very nice thanks
ReplyDeletenothing better than a good worn out comfy tshirt...now that tshirt can be cute!! awesome idea!!
ReplyDeletethank you so much:)))
DeleteI'm gonna try to make this today with a shirt that is to big for me
ReplyDeletethat is was I did:))
DeleteThank you Beka.
ReplyDeleteThat's supercute! I wish I was creative. Thx for making a DIY on it :)
ReplyDeleteThank you so much.:)
DeleteMine did not come out good. I used a large t-shirt. I have to sew the uncut side to make it work. It was just way to big not even close. So I'm not sure what else I could do different. But the one listed is really cute. ;)
ReplyDeleteI made this shirt last night and it turned out great! It's very flattering and I can't wait to wear it! :) Going to try another one tonight!
ReplyDeleteThanks!
Mindy
Awesome.. Thank you so much!!:)
DeleteI just got a new collar bone tattoo and have been searching for inexpensive off the shoulder tops...I Love this amazing idea. I will be making a few, wish me luck.
ReplyDeleteTHANK YOU SO MUCH
Thank you so much Cherie,
Deletehave a wonderful Day!!
How does this wash? I would love to make it but I have to know....
ReplyDeleteI washed mine in cold and hung it dry, it came out great..
Delete:)
This may sound silly but im not a fanof my upper arm,but love the look. Anyway i could make a similar one w both arms? Hope that makes sense! Thanks so much
ReplyDeletehey there...I am not sure How you would do that.. But let me think about it and get back to you ok?
DeleteOk, so for the inches across has me really confused. How do you know where to mark where you're cutting. This is my second attempt at making this shirt. I learned my lesson the first go round.
ReplyDeletehey there.. if you take a tape measure and measure under your arm to under your other arm you get your first measurement.. mine was 18 inches. mark to 18 inches
Deleterefer to picture #3
then measure your waist. mark that
then your hips, mark to that
you are going to cut the opposite side to the makes you made.
I hope this helps
:)
this is awesome, made it today and loved it totally! thank you so much for sharing...
ReplyDeleteThat is awesome Lorena. Thank you so much.
DeleteIt looks great, I love the things you are doing with these simple t-shirts. My question actually is not about the making of that super cute one shoulder shirt, the process is very good explained, I was wondering, If you have any idea how coud I wear such thing with a bra, or what kind of bra would be good to use with such shirts, for I really cannot afford it not to have anything under.
ReplyDeleteI have a strapless bra I wear. There are also bras that you can add a cross strap to, if you don't want to go strapless
Deletehow do you keep your weight down to look so good wobisobi?????
ReplyDeleteWOW how sweet.. I try and not eat to many processed foods, lots of fruits and veggies. and no sodas:)big hugs.
DeleteWould this work if you wanted to just do the one shoulder look without side ties...the shirt I have is not just a basic tee (sleeves are 3/4 ) but needs a little sexy look on top.
ReplyDeletethank you,
Teri Rogers
terihimes@hotmail.com
I was wondering the same thing
DeleteDo you thing you could do this on both shoulders? I'm really busty and don't feel comfortable in a strapless bra.
ReplyDeleteI am sure you could. That would look good.
DeleteOh my goodness! I love the ideas you have on here I a4m actually inspired to go straight out tomorrow and get supplies! keep it up Girlie! thanks for the inspiration:-)
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for the how to photos... I just made this shirt in white. :-) I'm very pleased with how it turned out.
ReplyDeletejust tried it.... i love it!!
ReplyDeleteTrying this tomorrow! Just made your basic halter no-sew T-shirt and love it. You, my friend, are the Needle-less Goddess! I will link to you from my blog when I create the post.

hi there, i just like your page. very interested in the no sew halter. :)
DeleteThis makeover is stunning! You did a really great job and inspired a lot of people!
ReplyDeletethat i like the coolest thing ever especialy since im doing a challenge wihsome friends were you have to get some cheap clothes from the op shop and make something of them with no thing but scisors as a tool would you mind if i re-blogged this.
ReplyDeleteThanks for asking, of course you can..
DeleteLove love love I just made 2 of them
ReplyDeleteAwesome:)
DeleteI needed this! Than you so much!!!
ReplyDeleteLoved the idea, but when I tried it, it turned out awful. =(
ReplyDeleteNeed to try this again. I used an XL shirt...didn't work so well. I normally wear a medium. Think I will try again with an XXL. Wish me luck! So want this to work!!
ReplyDeleteWell I know what I'm doing this weekend. I have lost so much weight in the past two years, I found an old 4x shirt that is way too big for me now and I'd hate to throw it away because it's a Misfits shirt. Thank you so much for helping me find a way to bring it back into my closet!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to try this. I do have one question. In one comment you mentioned that you use jersey for the shirt. Could a cotton blend be used? Maybe cotton/polyester? I am thinking that maybe some people are having problems because they are using 100 percent cotton. Thank you for sharing your ideas and techniques. You are so creative!
ReplyDeleteI am sure u can use a cotton blend, it might even wear better with a blend t-shirt.:)
DeleteI did this to one of my favorite band t's this weekend hoping to be able to upcycle it instead of recycle. But I messed up up and now it's just a mangled mess of strips on one side, and a huge arm hole on the other. Might just cut the band logo off the front and sew it onto a pillow or something. I'm horrible at this. xD
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry that happened. I have had to do that a few time during experimentation's. I hope you try again:)
DeleteI started this project today. My tshirt had a much wider collar, so I made a curvyer cut for the top lines. My 10 year old daughter helped me to make chalk marks and was very excited about how it would look when finished. Now she wants one like mine!
ReplyDeleteI'll share pics ASAP!
Hey!!! this is so coooool !!!!!!! I'm gonna do this!!
ReplyDeleteMy husband has had a t-shirt laying around for way too long.......thanks for the idea ;)
Awesome, :) Thank you so much Catalina
DeleteSaw this on another website and really dig it haha,
ReplyDeleteNot to get my girl to wear this on a night out without telling her I found it on a blog lol
(Im a guy, btw lol.)
I saw this pattern on your home page and searched it out. I love it and can't wait to make it! Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful ideas. I love the fact that you talk about heading out somewhere and not liking what you have so you just make something else out of it. What a great personality trait and a great way to show off your creativity. I look forward to renovating some of my old shirts that I was getting bored with. I love that you model many of your finished works - you are so beautiful!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteAnd you are so sweet. :) thank you for making my day.:)
DeleteIt's fabulous..you have good ideas..thanx a lot..i will try it:)) nice
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Dominika.:)

This is such an amazing idea!! My daughter is a huge fan of Marilyn Monroe, and I just found a T-shirt that I think she is going to love!! The Problem? It's a guy's shirt! Nothing feminine or sexy about it, but I loved the design! I was looking for an easy way to convert it into something that she would like and found your design!! It is perfect!! I will test it on a few shirts first to see if I need to move things a bit to have the picture more centered, but otherwise it's just perfect!!! Thank you so much for sharing your amazing talent!!!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much I would love to see:)
DeleteHave a wonderful day!
Love this idea! Do you have the tutorial for the maxi dress? I would love to give it a try! Thanks for sharing!!

DeleteI just made this out of an old shirt my hubby can't wear anymore and i LOVE it!!! I put the cuts and ties on both sides of the shirt though instead of just the one side (helped make the shirt tighter since it was a 2XL and i'm not that big).
ReplyDeleteThank you for the idea! I made it from a navy blue t-shirt.
ReplyDeleteI wanted a one shoulder shirt to wear out Saturday night but I couldn't ... misfitsshirt.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteI tried this about 20 minutes ago, & I don't know what I did wrong...I followed all the directions & I used a very big XL size men's shirt...I did all my measurements & cut it like it said too.....but it turned out horrible...I have no idea why =/ =( ..will try this again on one of my husband's old crap pay tshirts before I try it on a good one.... =)
