If you follow my blog you know that have done quite a few Heart Projects over the last month. Why you ask? Well some of the reasons I have done this is because we are approaching Valentine's day (stating the obvious) and also because I love the heart shape,
<3 it makes me smile when I see it. It reminds me of Love and how I feel about life.
Glitter Heart tee's are nothing new and everywhere at the moment. When I first started blogging, I wanted desperately to make a Glitter Heart tee, but found very little help DIYing it.
I wanted to know how the glitter stayed on and did not wash away.
Well it has been two years of research and here is what I have come up with.
#1. Mod Podge Fabric Glue is the best for any glitter heart project that you want to do with any fabric material. Always put one final coat of Mod Podge over the glitter to seal it in. The down side of this is that I can not find Mod Podge fabic glue just anywhere.. and sometimes I am looking for alternatives to making glitter stick to a shirt.
#2 The second best way to make glitter stick to a shirt is to mix the glitter it into fabric paint. I use Tulip Fabric paint from I love to create.com that is the same or a similar color to the glitter. That means if you want the shirt to be a red glitter heart find some red fabric paint and mix the glitter in with it, Then you also sprinkle the glitter on the wet fabric paint. it washes up pretty well but if you could, put a coat of fabric glue over top of that. If you don't have the fabric glue then just take extra care in washing the shirt..
#3 FabricTac permanent Adhesive, does not work as well, but it can work on certain projects. I have experienced some wash out with this product. Mainly it depends on how the glue is applied. If you use it for dots or small areas it works great, but on a larger scale it seem to peel.
So now, lets go see how I made this shirt.

Tutorial
Things you need
- A Tee of your choice
- A heart stencil* I made mine
- Masking tape
- Paper Plate
- A piece of Parchment paper or foil
- Three colors of glitter Martha Stewart Glitter in Red *Garnet, Pink* Tourmaline and Light Pink *Rose Quartz
- Tulip Stencil Sponge
- Tulip Fabric Paint in Crimson Red, Hot Pink and Glacier White.
- Mod Podge Fabric Glue
and place a piece of parchment paper between the front and back of your shirt.
1. Place some Red paint on the plate and stencil the red around the outer edge of the heart.
2. Now place the pink on the plate and stencil the inner part of the heart.
3. Now the white and put that in on of the top middle corner of the heart.
4. Now you are going to pour your red, pink and light pink glitter over the same color paint.
* Note: You can also mix the glitter into the paint in addition to pouring on top.
You can blend with your stencil sponge, to the desired effect.
Let dry over night.
Shake off the glitter
Now put a final coat of Mod Podge Fabric Glue
over the heart to seal the glitter in.
Let that dry 48 hours before washing.
Wash in cold water and Hang dry.
I did NOT put a final coat of glue on this one
just to TEST out how the glitter would stay without it.
I will get back to you on this, and let you know how it did..
Happy Thursday!
It is only One Week from Valentine's Day.
Lots of <3,
