This is a variation of the basic Halter I did HERE..
For those of you who did not like the back on the first DIY halter; this one makes the back tighter.
I love taking one thing and creating different looks, is one of my favorite things to do.

Tutorial
Things you Need
- Tee Shirt * this is a Mens Extra Large, Hanes T-shirt I wear a Medium/ Large Womens normally.
- Chalk
- Scissors
#1 Front
Cut on the red lines
#2 cut the back on the red lines.
#Back
Cut the red lines
Cut on the red lines
#2 cut the back on the red lines.
#Back
Cut the red lines
#Back
Cut the red lines
Cut the red lines
#4 Twist the straps
*This will make the back tighter as well*
Criss cross them and wrap around your neck and tie

DeleteTotally tried making this with a t-shirt that was too big so I still had sagging in the back. Instead, I twisted and twisted the straps until the back fit and then criss crossed them at the front and tied the straps behind my back instead of behind my neck and now I have a tube top.

DeleteMine turned out the same way. Sagging in the back and tight around the neck when I twisted the straps. Love the idea, just don't know where I went wrong. But I will keep trying..
Yes keep the no sew coming!!
Try and cut a deeper V in the front, then twist see if that takes up the slack in the back.
DeleteI also had this problem but found a solution...I cut a circle at the center ofthe back, just enough to tie a knot. worked great!!! Hope this helps, love this idea for glamming up old T's. thanks

DeleteI made this with my sons XL tshirts today just to try, the strap where not log enough and if u can sew a thin piece of elastic in the back takes out the sag and make it tight going to try one in my size later love it a long t for cover up at beach will be cool
ReplyDeleteI just made this! I cut the straps smaller at the shoulder seem because when I twisted the straps it was noticeably thicker there. It looks great. :)

DeleteJust did this with a shirt that was too small to wear. just didnt twist and cross the straps.. left as halter. turned out super cute.
ReplyDeleteI am going to try this. Are the twisted straps wide enough to cut into threes and braid? I think that would be cute. Maybe also x in the back instead of halter tie to avoid sag.

DeleteI have a women's tahirt that has that soft fabric kind of tight fitting but not too tight. Will that worm as well or should I buy a men's tshirt? This is super cute and would love to make one!
ReplyDeleteI am not sure if that will work. Is it the same material as knit.? If it is a shirt you can experiment with why not try it and see. :)

ReplyDeleteI am so sorry it didn't work. I only use Hanes Tee-shirts.. maybe the size was too big try with a smaller size. I had to do so many to get to the size that fit me. :(

ReplyDeleteHow did you get your straps in the back so long? that is one of my favorite features of the shirt but mine came out super short.
ReplyDeleteIf you look at the #2 and #3 picture, it is the back of the shirt. Make sure you are not cutting at the shoulder but you cut the middle of the back of the shirt. This make the straps twice as long. I hope this helps.

DeleteI did this but with a t-shirt that was too small at the sleeves so it was quite tight but it turns out great ! And instead of twisting I made a knot . It's pretty cool !

ReplyDeleteThis shirt is amazing! It took me only three minutes to make and it fits perfectly. I tied the straps where they cross the first time and it holds a lot better.
