Project Re-Style #47 Glitter Heel Fix

I was debating over a couple of Re-Styles this week, but because of a few parties,  the glitter heels won out in the end.

Welcome everyone to my Project Re-Style Monday.
I have only 5 more Re-Styles left to reach the the one year mark.
I can hardly believe that a whole  year has passed.
This week I am saving a pair of shoes from the garbage. Glitter heels have been all over the internet, from I Spy DIY's Glitter heels to A Pair and a Spare's Glitter boots.  I am going to use what I have learned  to save a pair of my beloved heels from the trash bin. One night while I was having a wonderful time, my poor heels went through a grate, shredded beyond repair.
Ruined ~so I thought~
But  leave it to a little glue and glitter to save the day. Not only did this  hide my poor messed up heels,  it gave my shoes just enough sparkle for that holiday party.
So Girls, if you have a pair of shoes you love, but feel like you can't wear them because the heel looks like a cheese grater, grab your glue and glitter and get to work.

  7. i wonder if this can be applied over a whole shoe??!?! i "need" some glitter shoes, bought a pretty conservative and need some sparkles thrown in. What kind of glitter did you use?

    ReplyDelete
  8. I used Martha Stewart ultra fine glitter, and yes I think you could do this to the whole shoe. Just put and extra coat of mod podge as a sealer and top coat.

  9. I can't wait to try this...I have some heels in desperate need of help and a little pizazz!

  11. This is awesome! A lot of my heels are ruined from all the ice/snow/gravel-thrown-on-top we have where I live. This is a perfect way to save my heels just a little longer!

  12. Great idea!!! Love the glitter, how fun:-)

  13. I also came over from Pinterest. I found a brand new pair of fire-engine-red stilletos in my unusual size (11) at a thrift store for $7.

I bought them and wear them to really special occasions (I have foot problems). At my cousin's wedding, my shoes were complimented a LOT, but my feet were KILLING me, so, at one point, I sunk my heels into the gravel, in order to ease the load on the balls of my feet. A stylish woman came up to me and said, I love your shoes, but I am so mad at you! I said, "What? Why?", she said, "You are ruining your shoes!!!"

Oops, she was right. I still wear them, on occasion, but this project will give them a whole new lease on life! (Time to run out and buy silver glitter!) :-D

  15. YES! I have a pair of nude patent heels that are my absolute fave go to's. And they are ruined from rain grates and driving in them here in Seattle. This is EXACTLY what I need to do. I was wondering how the application worked, but this makes TOTAL sense. Thank you!!!!

  16. Another one from Pinterest here! :] What kind of glue did you use? I have a pair of black round toe pumps that I cannot get rid of but have the most ridiculous heels ever. Excited to try this!

  21. Did you have to smooth out the heels first? i was wondering if sandpaper would be needed to give the heels a clean new finish. Thanks & great work! I love your sparkly heels!

    ReplyDelete
  22. Katie, I did not have to do anything but clean them really well. The glue and glitter covered everything completely.

  31. I have a pair of black boots... wonder how this would look with black glitter?

    ReplyDelete
  32. Love this idea.. but what if your shoes are a deep red. Would it look tacky to do this on colored shoes?? Or what would you suggest. The cream shoes look great with that glitter but I am afraid if I do it to red, it will look cheap.

    ReplyDelete
  33. hey Brandi, I saw it done on a pair of fuscha heels and it worked very well. Scroll up from yours to Sarah's comments and she has a link to the pics. Both ladies did an excellent job with their shoes! If I wore heels I would be all over this, but I did pass the tip on to my mom.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I think a colored heel would look awesome. Even a gold on Red or a black on red would be nice. Sarah, in a comment above, has done a Red shoe and they look fantastic... I think I will try something a little more daring next time.
    Thanks

  45. Just a tip... I have done this many times and you will get a very neat clean edge if you masking tape the edge of the soles off before glittering... Then very carefully using a craft knife, trim the tape off so it does not pull up your glitter....now finish with the top seal coat.... Presto! A very professional looking job!

  47. Hi there. Thank you so much!! I have worn my shoes out twice, since I have done this project and my shoes have held up wonderfully. I also put two coats of glue over the glitter, letting them dry in between, which seals the glitter in all nice and snug.
    Thanks for the question!!

Love your creativity and the shoes.

  62. I just used this idea on a pair of heels that looked like grated cheese. I bought the gloss modpodge and a variety pack of glitter as well as a stencil paint brush set. The color of the shoe was a grey and so I used silver glitter on the heels. It took 5 coats of the mixture but i am wearing these shoes today and they look fantastic! They look store bought! Thank you for this idea! It is saving me money!

    ReplyDelete
  63. The glue does dry clear and I bought the modpodge glue at a Hobby Lobby but I believe any craft store will have this glue for sale. it comes it matt finish or the gloss. I bought the gloss.
