Glimmer and Sparkle

What is  the fascination women have with things that sparkle and shine. Whenever I am out shopping I am always attracted to sparkly things, earring, necklaces, big shiny~ twinkly rings. Whenever I see sparkle or shiny things, I can not help myself, I have to go to it, hold it in my hand, admire it, force myself to put it back where it came from. ( Sigh
It is almost like I am locked in a tractor beam and I am being pulled to it.
Do all women experience this same feeling?
They have to, or jewelry  would not be so popular.
I just know it has to be something physiological.

This is a piece that I did with some left over wood beads.
Of  course I had to put a little sparkle on them because....
well,~ let's just say had to!.

Tutorial
Things you need
1. Wooden beads
2. Glitter
3.Mod podge
4. Small brush
5.Jute
6.Chain
7. 2 jump rings
8. 1 lobster claw clasp
9. 2 necklace clasps( for the jute)
10. Pliers

1. Paint your wooden beads with Mod Podge, then sprinkle with glitter. let dry and do a second coat, let that dry and put on a final coat of Mod Podge this seals the glitter.( let that dry)
2. take your jute and cut it the length you want, and start adding the beads.  I  always start with the middle and work my way alternating from side to side, tying a knot in between each bead. Add your necklace clasp to each end of your jute using your pliers.
3.then take your chain and cut it into 3 lengths.  I placed mine down on the table to decide how long I want each chain. Don't forget about your string of glitter beads, include them when cutting the length your chain. .
(You  will have 4 tiers  when you are done.)
4. for the side chain and beads that are just hanging, follow the same instructions. Just make them both  long enough to go down one side of the necklace.
5 Attach  one side of the chain and the jute to a jump ring, do the same to the other side, also while you have your jump ring open add your  lobster claw.

and with that, you are all finished.

Wear this  to dress up a plain Tee.
Have a wonderful Wednesday!
Oh yeah, don't forget the winner of my bracelet giveaway will be announced tonight.
I will see you then...
The suspense is killing me...... too exciting..

Project Re-Style #33 Antique Doily turned into a Small clutch.

Happy Monday as always Everyone!!
Welcome to Project Re-Style Monday, # 33.
This weeks Re-Style project is something that came to me in a dream. I woke up one day last week and had a vision of  a small clutch  that looked like a antique doily.  So What did I do?  I made one with an antique doily, and some leather of course.

Tutorial
Things You Need
1. Doily
2. Leather~ the same size as the doily you are using, and a little extra for embellishments.
3. Leather hole punch
4.Thread
5.Magnetic snaps
6.Needles (one big and one small one)
7.Waxed thread
8.Glue E6000
9.Scissors (Not Shown.)
10.Sewing Machine

1. Cut out your leather to match the shape of your doily.
2.Make sure the doily fits just a tad bigger then your leather.

3. fold your leather in half, put a small amount of glue on your leather
4. punch holes down both sides
5.with needle and waxed thread stitch the sides together.
6.  take the  inside, bottom corners, and stitch them straight across
7. then turn right side out.
8. fold in one flap to the inside of the purse, I glued this piece down.

9 Now sew the doily with a smaller needle and some matching thread, just like the leather. You are going to set the leather purse into the doily sleeve.
10.  With my sewing machine, I stitched the doily to the leather.

11. Add your magnetic snaps. instructions for that HERE
12. I added an extra piece of leather to the inside flap, to hide the snap and for extra support.
13. I made some tassels( instruction HERE for those),  I punched a hole and added them to the front of the clutch.

~and that is it~
all done.

A little leather, a little lace.

I hope you all have a wonderful Monday.
I am praying for those who are dealing with Irene, and the after math.

One Sleeve Less.

Pin HERE
Pants HERE
Shoes HERE

While my brain was still reeling  from Steampunk, the new word I have just learned, I reached for a white shirt out of my closet then walked upstairs to iron it.  While ironing this shirt, it came to my attention that one of the sleeves was mmmmmmmmm gone.!?  Was this a re-style project gone a muck,  one I have not finished yet, or just one I have forgotten about?  I continued to iron it and decided to wear it anyway.
One sleeve just seemed cooler( as in, not as hot) than two.

Have a wonderful Friday.

Steampunk

Steampunk is a sub-genre of science fiction, fantasy, alternate history, and speculative fiction that came into prominence during the 1980s and early 1990s.[1] Steampunk involves a setting where steam power is still widely used—usually the Victorian era Britain—that incorporates elements of either science fiction or fantasy. Works of steampunk often feature anachronistic technology or futuristic innovations as Victorians may have envisioned them; based on a Victorian perspective on fashion, culture, architectural style, art, etc. This technology may include such fictional machines as those found in the works of H. G. Wells and Jules Verne. (Wikipedia)

I made this brooch the other day out some of the leftovers from some of the pieces I have been working on.  When I showed it to H to get her opinion, she looked at me with a quizzical brow and said" Wow, that is very Steampunk."  Not knowing really what that meant, I asked her to explain. She in turn said, "Let's just say,  Victorian meets Starwars." I immediately  went to my computer and looked this up.  This style has been since the 80's,  but I never new it was called that.  I love the whimsey and the industrial feel it has.  Reminds me of  Tomorrow-land at Walt Disney World.
No wonder I love it.
For those of you not familiar with this term either, here are some other examples.

Fall, Suede Clutch Tutorial

A few people have asked  me to do a tutorial on my Fall suede clutch.  I love writing up tutorials, even though it is not until after the whole piece is put together that I realize  I have not taken any pictures or written any notes on how I made it.  So I always have to reconstruct it in my head and draw it out on my draft pad. Not the easiest way to do a tutorial, but because my mind works backwards, it seems to come together perfectly.  I Love DIY, or anything that has to do with me making it or remaking something. This clutch was a combination of about 50 different clutches that I researched over the internet.  One was from Cheri and her blog, I am momma Hear me roar. Her tutorial HERE.  I loved the scalloped edges and the button embellishment.
In the end, it was tailored just to me and my style. No sewing machine is required, all you need are just  a few supplies, a little time,  and a clutch like this can be yours.
Tutorial
Things You Need.

1. Leather 10 inches by 10 inches for the base and about 10 inches by 7 inches for the flap.( you could make this any size you want, these are just the dimensions  I used) and then some scrap leather for tassels and embellishments.
2.Leather hole punch
 3.Waxed linen thread
4.Glue
5.Magnetic snaps
6 A nail for the holes
7. Not shown~ but you need a good pair of  Scissors.
8. Needle

 1.Cut out your shape
2. Cut out your flap
3.Take the extra where you just cut the half circle flap and cut out the scallop shape
4.Glue that to you half moon shape.
5. Fold your leather in half~ place a small amount of glue down both sides, press them down.*( be careful not to use to much glue, because you will be turning this inside out.)
Using the hole punch-punch holes down each side.  Then sew with your waxed linen thread.
6.Take the bottom of your bag flatten the corners and punch 3 to 4 holes then sew there.  Turn your bag right side out
7. Take the half moon flap and glue it to the outside back of your bag. Let dry for about 30 minutes. Attach the magnetic snaps. instructions for that HERE
8. Cut 6 circles~ 2 small, 2 medium, and 2 large.  Stack on top of each other and punch 2 holes in them.
Attach one of the stacked circles to the front flap, to cover the magnetic snap. Do this by punching  2 holes on the flap of your purse then  using your waxed linen and  your needle, or a piece of suede lace, tie the embellishment down. Attach the other circles  the same way, but to the back of the purse, where the front and back meet. Pictured below.

Tassel instruction.

To attach the tassels
Cut a 3and1/2  inch by 1/2 inch piece of leather
folded it in half.
cut out 2 small circles
place your tassels in the folded piece of leather, place the circles over the piece of folded leather, punch 2 holes in all the pieces, then I punch two holes in the side of the bag.  Then  attach it with a needle and waxed linen.
and with that last embellishment  you are done.

I hope this makes sense to all of you.
If not, please do not hesitate to email me.
Happy Hump day to you all.
