Strapless Ruffle Shirt: DIY

Looking for a strapless top for those HOT summer nights? 

Well I was too.

I looked high and low and  I could not find what I wanted,

 so I had to make one.

  I thought that making one out of two shirts was not only a great summer DIY,

but also a great way to recycle.

Tutorial,

Things you need.

 Two shirts * these are Men's Large.
Scissors
Sewing machine
Straight pins.
Safety pin
Tape

I taped off my grey shirt right under the arms.

 Then I cut it. 

This helps me cut a straight line.

 I cut the black shirt the same way taping it off and cutting along the tape to make a straight line

I folded the black shirt in half and cut it into  different sizes.

The top cut, with the hem, is going to be my top ruffle. 

The third cut down is my bottom ruffle,

and the very bottom cut is going to be the string.

you will need two of the small size.

 Pin the Black shirt with the hem,  to the hem of the grey shirt.

Sew the two pieces together leaving a space about 1/2 inch apart.

That space will be a channel where you will weave your string through.

 Take your one inch piece that you cut out of the  black shirt and stretch it, making a string.

Attach your safety pin to one end.

Make a small cut in between the two stitches*careful not to cut through the back shirt.

and thread your string through the channel.

 Work it all the way around the shirt and pull it out the same hole.

Pull the string and tie in the front.

You could stop here if you wanted to,

but I wanted to add a ruffle on the bottom of the shirt.

 I sewed the second  piece of black t-shirt to the bottom of my grey shirt,

similar to the the way I sewed the top ruffle.  Making a channel

 in between so that I could thread the other string.  

It is adjustable which is the very best part.

 Add a few beads to the end of your string for some detail 

and your all finished.

Back

Wear with some jeans or some shorts for those warm summer nights.
