Tutorial
Things you need
- Shirt * I used a Fruit of the Loom V-neck.( size of your choice, they come in all colors)
- Scissors
- Ruler
- Chalk
- Studs * Hobby Lobby
I drew a straight line using my ruler across the front of the shirt right below the point of the V.
with my chalk.
I drew 11 lines on each side of my shirt.
I cut those lines with my scissors.
I cut the two middle pieces out completely.
and I started to stud my other pieces together.
Here is the pattern I used.
you can leave it like this or.......
you can tie it up on one side.
Now you have your own lattice shirt.
No sewing required.

ReplyDeleteThis is a fantastic idea and looks amazing - I'm trying to make one myself but the claw studs just keep falling out - I bend the prongs as far in as I can but they never stay put for long. Any idea what I'm doing wrong? I bought the studs on eBay and they're good quality (I can't use Hobby Lobby as I'm in the UK) but just will not stay in. Any advice would be much appreciated!

DeleteHI! I am loving this! I have already made the no sew draped cardi! Anyway, I bought the fruit of the loom vneck tees from Target today to do this, but went to Michael's and Jo-Ann's (Hobby Lobby was closed today) to find the studs and couldn't find them. I am anxious to do this....do you have any other suggestions to do in place of the studs?

DeleteWrap the strands in yarn, ribbon, or embroidery floss instead of using studs. Knot tightly and trim off excess. Choose metallics and opposing colors for contrast or similar color as shirt to shift focus to lattice. Also you can sew or use fabric fusion to secure fabric behind the design, inside the shirt, for another pop of interest.

ReplyDeleteThe studs have two prongs, that you fold over with pliers or your fingers.
DeleteCan you tell me exactly what the stud packaging says so I know what to ask for. Love this shirt.

Deletehi! i am excited to do this tshirt, but i am having trouble with the SHIRT part lol. the v-necks i bought dont seem to be as deep of a V as yours, leaving less cut out area to the side. where did you buy your fruit of the loom vnecks? are they a package or sold singly? thanks! Nina

DeleteI so want to do this to one of my gym tees, I always feel pretty unfeminine when I'm at the gym as I'm not exactly small so have to wear a size 4xl to make sure I'm covered up but this could help to make me feel better!
ReplyDeleteGot to find some studs like this in the UK, but am thinking maybe winding and knotting embroidery thread around them may work just as well and could avoid the possibility of chafing and rubbing given how hot and sweaty I get!

I a, currently giving this one a shot and I have a few questions for you to make sure I have the best outcome. 1) do you always use men's shirts or are some of these women's? I had a hard time finding the colored fruit of the loom shirts at Walmart. 2) when you buy the packaged shirts do you wash them before you alter them? 3) how do you recommend washing these shirts in the future?
ReplyDeleteHey there Kassie, Thanks so much for the question. 1. Yes I always use mens shirts. they have a fantastic variety of colored mens shirts made by fruit of the loom in Wal-mart 2. No I do not always wash them.. Once in a blue moon I do but for the most part I don't. 3. I always wash all of my shirts in cold and hang them dry. Some of the glitter shirts I Hand wash, but for the most part I just wash them in the washing machine on cold. I hope this helps. Have a fantastic Night <3.

It wasn't listed and I wanted to make it as close as possible since we have roughly the same body build. They're has been plenty of ones that I loved, but no matter how long I look, I STILL CAN'T find the style im looking to make!!! What I want is a sexy sew/no sew semi-revealing, & most of all a vintage style design. (like Marilyn Monroe's style sense) ex.) crop top turtlenecks, or her Fitted, gathered & off the shoulder shirts Maybe You can help me find it!

ReplyDeleteI have tons of studs lying around from my old studded belts. Collected them off the belts due to an allergy to the belt buckle.
All these studs, finally a use.
Let's just hope this style's fit suits me!
