I heard about this on the news today and thought it looked like a great natural way to get rid of dust mites.  Plus, I bet it smells wonderful!

 

 

Using Eucalyptus Oil to Kill Mites in a House

Treat bedding with eucalyptus oil to prevent dust mite infestation.

Dust mites are small, microscopic organisms related to a spider. These are common pests that feed upon dead skin cells. Some people develop severe allergies to dust mites. Combining eucalyptus oil with hot water in the laundry can help treat dust mite infestation.

Laundry

1. Combining eucalyptus oil with the laundry can help kill dust mites. Combine 6 tablespoons of eucalyptus oil and 1/4 cup of laundry detergent. Wash in 13 gallons of hot water.

Laundry Spray Recipe

2. Combine one ounce of eucalyptus oil with seven ounces of distilled water. Place in a spray bottle and use it to treat linen and other laundry.

Mattress Cleaning

3. Spray mattresses once a week with eucalyptus laundry spray to help keep mattresses dust mite free.
