Bow, T-Shirt DIY






Inspiration

I saw this cute tank top on Pinterest, and thought that it might make a really cute Tee-Shirt.
 I made mine Green for St. Patrick's Day.

Tutorial 
Things you need


  1. T- shirt
  2. Ribbon *about 3 yards~ 3 inches wide.*
  3. Scissors
  4. Chalk


Cut your neck

Lay your shirt on a flat surface.
lay your ribbon down and trace it with chalk.

now carefully cut  slits in your shirt.
*just the top layer.



  weave your ribbon through, starting at the bottom.


 Weave your ribbon all the way to the top.

Tie a bow,
and then anchor with a hand stitch.



 There are so many different colors you could put together.

    Curious how this held up when you washed it?

      I tested the ribbon before I used it and it did not bleed at all. Hand wash in cold water, dry flat and it should be fine. Just test your ribbon, make sure you can wash it :)

      I just made one, and I zig-zaged around the slits before I cut them. Essentially, a simple buttonhole. I ironed a little interfacing on the back first. It worked up nicely, and I think it will last longer. Used a zebra ribbon on a bright pink shirt for my granddaughter.

      Yes, you don't have to cut out the collar, that should keep it in place.:)

      yes it is,i folded it in half and there is a a picture, where it says weave your ribbon through, I will work up a drawing and post it so it is more clear.:)

    What kind of shirt did you use, is it just an over sized shirt? Also did you cut the sleeves an the bottom?

      I used a medium women's shirt and no I did not cut the sleeves or the bottom. :)

      Depending on how you would want the shirt to fit. i did mine slightly bigger but if you want it to fit just get your size tee-shirt.:)i would love to see..

    How would you wash this tho? isnt ribbon very delicate? i would imagine it shrinking...

      You could always pick a washable ribbon and just hang it dry instead of putting it in the dryer.:)

    Oh I love it. I make hair bows so I have tons of ribbon. im going to make this for my daughter but im wondering if weaving the ribbon around the middle and tying a bow in the back would work instead of up the side?

    Love your shirt and tutorial! I have a few t-shirts that I would probably wear more if they looked like this. Gives me a good excuse to go to the craft store for some ribbon ;)

    I tried something similar with an ild mens t-shirt I found at the thrift shop and it did not turn out as I had hoped. May I ask... did you go up a size or two in t-shirts and/or use a specific material?
